As directed by the Judicial Magistrate Court, the KK Nagar police in Tiruchy today registered an FIR against former Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan and three others for allegedly cheating and threatening a realtor.
The 54-year-old realtor, S Loganathan, lodged a complaint with KK Nagar police in February alleging that he had been threatened by former minister and his alleged benamis following a disagreement over a land deal.
Since no action was taken by police on his complaint, Loganathan approached the Judicial Magistrate Court –II. Loganathan in his affidavit claimed that when Natham R Viswanathan was electricity minister in 2015, Kamaraj, one of the accused, introduced himself as the minister’s benami and struck a deal with Loganathan to set up a solar power plant at Keeranur in Pudukottai district and had taken a bribe of Rs 50 lakh.
As the proposed project did not take off, he demanded to return his money when Kamaraj, Vijayakumar and Thottam Baskar intimidated him and his wife over phone and in person on several occasions.
Hearing his petition, the Judicial Magistrate Muralidharakannan on May 25 directed the police to register an FIR against former minister Natham R Viswanathan and three others.
As directed by the court, KK Nagar police registered a case under Sections 120b (Criminal conspiracy), 294 (b) (uttering obscene words), 448 (house trespassing) and 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
