In a daring act, unidentified burglars who struck at the locked house of a petrol bunk owner here early today decamped with two luxury cars worth Rs 20 lakh besides looting 5 sovereigns of jewels, 5 kg of silver ornaments and Rs 30,000 kept in the bureau.
The 46-year-old Ravichandran, resident of Municipal Colony in Thanjavur, along with his family was now gone to Singapore on vacation. Taking advantage of this, the unidentified burglars gained entry into the house after breaking open the door lock and took away the jewels and cash kept in the bureau.
The burglars also drove away the two luxury cars - a Toyota Innova car and a Ford car respectively- parked on the portico while leaving.
Police said that Ravichandran had installed CCTV cameras at his residence and had been monitoring the house through his mobile from Singapore. The burglars also took away the hard disk of the CCTV camera. He was shocked to find the blurred vision in his mobile and alerted his brother Kaviarasan who is residing in the same area.
Kaviarasan visited his brother’s residence and was shocked to find the two cars and other valuable stolen.
Based on a complaint, Thanjavur Medical College Hospital police have registered a case and further investigation is on.

In another incident, unidentified burglars gained entry into the locked house of Ilamurugan (62), a retired professor, at Arulananda Nagar,10th Cross, Thanjavur and decamped with 30 sovereigns of jewels and Rs 4.5 lakh kept in the bureau.
Ilamurugan, along with his family, was gone to a relative’s house in Vaduvur for the past few days. The burglary came to light when Ilamurugan returned home this morning.
Based on his complaint, Thanjavur South police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
