Tiruchy: At least 17 persons were injured when they attempted to tame the ferocious bulls during the jallikattu event held at Allithurai in Srirangam taluk in the district today.

Revenue Divisional Officer A Rajarajan of Srirangam Sub Division, flagged off the jallikattu event. Among others, Minister for Tourism Vellamandi N Natarajan and Minister for Backward Class and Minorities Welfare S Valarmathi watched and enjoyed the Tamils’ traditional sport of valour.
A total of 316 ferocious bulls from Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Ariyalur, Salem, Sivaganga, Perambalur, Karur and Namakkal districts and 290 bull-tamers participated in the event.
All precautionary measures including mandatory medical test for the bulls and the tamers as per the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court had been taken before the conduct of the Tamils’ traditional sport of valour.
