Tiruchy: The judicial magistrate court here today ordered the police to register FIR against former Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan and three others for allegedly cheating a person after taking a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to grant permission to start solar power project.
Based on a petition filed by Loganathan, a resident of K K Nagar in Tiruchy, judicial magistrate (II) Muralikannan ordered the KK Nagar police to register a case against Natham R Viswanathan and three others and submit the report before the court in a period of one month.
Loganathan in his complaint had stated that Kamaraj, hailing from Tirunelveli, approached him in 2014 and promised to get due permission from the then electricity minister Natham R Viswanathan to start solar power project on the land owned by him at Keeranur in Pudukottai district.
Kamaraj also demanded and took a bribe of Rs 50 lakh in two instalments – Rs20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh respectively. Meanwhile, Natham R Viswanathan who contested from Athoor constituency in the 2016 assembly elections lost
However, Kamaraj and his associates Baskar and Arun did not get the permission as assured. They did not return the money either. At one point of time, Kamaraj and his associates started threatening Loganathan.
Loganathan presented petitions to city police commissioners, Chennai and Tiruchy respectively requesting to take action but to no avail.
As a last resort, he filed a petition before the judicial magistrate court (II), Tiruchy praying direction to police to register a case and take action against the four accused.
