Thanjavur: A reformed rowdy was hacked to death by two unidentified persons in broad day light in Kumbakonam today.
The 30-year-old Sivanantham, resident of Thukkampalayam area in Kumbakonam was riding his motorbike from Palakkarai area to Auto Nagar on the Chennai bypass to supply water canes to his customers when the two assailants armed with machetes intercepted his motorbike and attacked him indiscriminately. Sivanantham who sustained multiple cut injuries died on the spot.
On being informed, senior police officials including Superintendent of Police J Mahesh rushed there, inspected the scene of crime and conducted enquiry.
His body was removed to government hospital in Kumbakonam for postmortem.
Sivanantham who was a rowdy-sheeter in police dossiers, however, reportedly gave up his criminal activities and had been running an agency supplying mineral water to various shops in Auto Nagar for the past three years.
Sivanantham is survived by his wife and a child.
