Thanjavur: P.R.Pandian, coordinator of All Farmers’ Associations has appealed to the leaders, MLAs and MPs of various political parties including the AIADMK, DMK, Congress and the Left parties in Tamil Nadu to boycott the forthcoming Presidential Election protesting the step-motherly treatment meted out by Central Government.
Addressing the media persons here today, Pandian said that the farmers owing allegiance to his association would embark on a hunger strike in Thanjavur for five days from June 1 pressing these demands.
Mr Pandian alleged that Central government was attempting to constitute a single tribunal in a bid to deprive the Tamil Nadu of its rights over Cauvery. He also alleged that central government was acting against the interest of Tamil Nadu in issues such as water resources and NEET.
“All the political parties in Tamil Nadu should boycott the presidential election in a bid to register our protest to Central government which continuously refuses to constitute the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) as per the final award of Cauvery tribunal”, Pandian said.
Pandian said that he would meet the leaders, MLAs and MPs of all the political parties including AIADMK, DMK, Congress and the Left parties in the State from tomorrow (May 23) onwards in a bid to retrieve the TN’s rights over Cauvery water.
