Thanjavur: At least 40 activists, including ten women, of People’s Art and Literary Association (PALA) (Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam) were taken into custody when they staged a demonstration here today protesting the Sastra University for having provided its premises for conducting RSS training camp (Annual Second Year Sangha Shiksha Varga).
Led by the association's state joint secretary Kaliyappan, the activists staged slogan shouting demonstration in front of the railway junction here demanding the immediate cancellation of the Sastra Univeristy’s recognition for having provided its premises for RSS to conduct its annual training camp. They also urged government to take stern action and nationalize the varsity.
The 21-day training camp began in Sastra University on April 28. VaidyaSubramaniam, Dean, Sastra University, formally inaugurated the camp by lighting the ceremonial lamp. At least 145 shikshartis reportedly attended the camp. De-briefing will take place in the morning on May 19.
Meanwhile, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat who enjoys the top category ‘Z+’ security cover visited the camp on May 12 and attended the camp for four days till May 15.
