THANJAVUR: The Mahila Fast Track Court here convicted and sentenced an engineering student to seven year rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl studying in Class X.
According to prosecution, the 20-year-old Prakash, resident of Mela Theru in Kulichapattu village, who fell in love with the victim residing in the same area and studying in Class X, sexually assaulted her in December, 2015 promising to marry her.
Based on a complaint by the victim’s mother, Ammapettai police registered a case and arrested Prakash on the charge of sexually assaulting the minor girl.
Trial of the case was conducted at the Mahila Fast Track Court in Thanjavur.
The Judge who heard the case found Prakash who is now studying B.E (First Year) in a private engineering college in Thanjavur, guilty of the charges against him. The Judge who pronounced his verdict in the case on Monday ordered Prakash to undergo seven year rigorous imprisonment besides slapping a fine of Rs 1,000. In default, Prakash should undergo further one year imprisonment, the judge said.
