Major fire at Bata showroom and godown, footwear and shoes worth Rs 1 crore destroyed


A major fire broke out  at the godown of the Bata show room here on Saturday evening and  footwear and shoes worth Rs 1 crore were destroyed in the fire. Fire broke out due to electrical short circuit. Fortunately, neither injury nor casualty was reported.



The Bata show room is a two floor structure located in VOC Nagar on Tiruchy main road in Thanjavur. Bata show room is located on basement and its godown is located in the first floor while two private finance companies are located in the second floor.

Workers who noticed thick, black smoke billowing out of its godown located on the first floor at 6 pm ran for their lives. Then, fire rapidly spread to the basement where the sales and show room is located.

On being informed, fire and rescue service personnel rushed there and extinguished the fire after battling for three hours. Four fire tenders were summoned and pressed into service. However, footwear and shoes worth Rs 1 crore were destroyed in the fire, sources said.
