KARUR: In a tragic incident, seven Mahatrashtra tourists, including two women and a girl child, died and four others were injured when the car in which they were travelling rammed against a sand laden lorry near here early today.
A group of 11 persons, all hailing from Surat in Maharashtra and presently residing at Kasaragod district in Kerala, were returning home in the ill-fated car after visiting Velankannai shrine in Nagapattinam district during the wee hours of Saturday.

When the car was proceeding near K Pettai village on the Tiruchy-Karur national highway near Lalapettai at 7.30 am, the driver of the car reportedly lost control of over his vehicle and collided head on against the Taurus lorry bound for Tiruchy from Karur.
On the impact, five persons including a girl child travelling in the car died on the spot while two others including a woman succumbed to injuries after being admitted to government hospital in Kulithalai. Two other persons who sustained grievous injuries in the accident were shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchy.
The deceased were identified as Rohit (22), Jerald (52), Sandrin (40), Sanano (10), Reema (30), Albin (29) and Priscilla (45).
Kulithalai police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
