Three including a woman killed in road mishap

Thanjavur: Three persons including a woman died and two others were injured in two different road accidents that took place in Thirukkattuapalli area near here on Monday night.



Three youths namely Anandaraj (22), Praveenraj (17), both hailing from Chinna Kottarapatti village, and Keerthi (17), resident of Vinnanurpatti village, all working in the same hotel near Poondi Madha Basilica, were returning home together in a motorbike.

Keerthi was riding the motorbike with Anandraj and Praveenraj on pillion.

The motorbike was proceeding near the Poondi Madha arch when it collided head on with a lorry coming from the opposite direction. In the mishap, Keerthi who suffered grievous injuries died on the spot while the other two sustained grievous injured and were admitted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital (TMCH) where Praveenraj succumbed to his injuries.

The lorry sped away from the spot soon after the mishap. Thirukkattupalli police have registered a case and further investigation is on.

In another incident, a 51-year-old Santhi, resident of Mela Theru in Agarapettai village, died and her husband Ilangovan (65) was injured when a speeding motorbike hit against the couple in Thirukkattupalli on Monday night.

Elagovan along with his wife Santhi was walking on the roadside after having drunk fresh juice from a juice shop located near the ATM of a nationalized bank in Thirukkattupalli when the motorbike lost control of its rider Nelson (26), hailing from Lalgudi area in Tiruchy district, ran haphazard and hit against the couple.

In the mishap, both Ilangovan and Santhi sustained injuries and were initially admitted to government hospital in Thirukkattupalli. Later, they were shifted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. Santhi, however, died on the way to hospital.

Thirukkattupalli police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
