Tiruvarur: A turban-wearing robber who barged into the house of the functionary of ‘Vanigar Sangam Peramaippu’ in Thiruthuraipoondi early today decamped with Rs 1.60 lakh kept in the pooja room.

L Senthilnathan ( 59), resident of Mannargudi road in Thiruthuraipoondi, was sleeping along with his family members at home when the turban-wearing unidentified robber gained entry into the house after breaking open the latch of the rear door early today and took away Rs 1.60 lakh kept in the pooja room.
Senthilnathan’s daughter who emerged out of the bathroom then was shocked to find the robber and raised an alarm by screaming, ‘thief…thief..’. On hearing her screams, Senthilanathan and his wife Jayalakshmi rushed there but the robber managed to flee by scaling the compound wall.
Senthilnathan is the zonal president of Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam Peramaippu led by Vikrama Raja for Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.
On being informed, DSP Jebaraj, Inspector Ravichandran and other police personnel rushed there, inspected the scene of crime and conducted enquiry. Based on a complaint by Thiruthuraipoondi police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
