Six passengers die, fifteen others injured as TNSTC bus rammed into stationary truck

DINDIGUL: Six passengers including a woman and a 14-year-old boy died on the spot and fifteen others were injured  when a State owned Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck at Amali Nagar junction near  Perumalkoilpatti village on the Dindigul –Madurai national highway today.

Of the six deceased, only five persons were identified.

The ill-fated TNSTC bus was on its way to Dindigul from Madurai at a high speed. On noticing the truck parked on the roadside, the driver of TNSTC bus attempted to turn the wheels in a bid to avoid hitting the truck. However, the speeding bus lost control of the driver and rammed into the truck. On the impact, the right portion of the bus was completely crashed and six passengers including a woman were crushed to death while fifteen others were injured.

Of the deceased, five persons were identified as Seeniammal (65) of Kaladipatti village in Nilakottai block, G Somasundaram (37) of Nachikurichi village in Srirangam in Tiruchy district, S Benedict Sanjay (14) of Ammaiyanaickanur, V Narayanan of Sundarapandipuram in Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district and Karthik (28) of Madurai while one more person is yet to be identified.

Eyewitnesses said that negligent driving by the TNSTC bus driver caused the accident.

The injured passengers were rescued from the mangled wreckage of bus and admitted to the government headquarters hospital where the condition of two persons is said to be critical.

On being informed, Collector T G Vinay visited and consoled the injured passengers admitted in the hospital.
