Sivaganga: A woman police inspector committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling in the bed room in her house at Manamadurai near here today.
The 38-year-old inspector, R Amutha Selvi, who went inside the bed room latched the door from inside. As she did not return for long, her family members knocked. As she did not respond despite repeated knocks, they alerted the Manamadurai police.
A police team led by DSP R Sankar, Manamadurai Sub Division, rushed there and entered the bed room after breaking open the door. Much to their shock, she was found dead by hanging from the ceiling in the bed room. The body was then removed to government hospital for post-mortem. Police also reportedly recovered a suicide note from the bed room.
Though Amutha Selvi was recently transferred from Ramanathapuram and posted as Inspector of Police, Government Railway Police, Tiruchirappalli, she did not join duty but went on a long medical leave, sources said.
She is suspected to have resorted to this extreme step due to some dispute in family.
