Thanjavur: Arrangements are now in place for the smooth conduct of Car festival of the world renowned Big Temple in Thanjavur. Over 500 police personnel would be deployed on security duty.

With the main event, the pulling of temple car slated for May 5, Collector A Annadurai inspected the arrangements being made for the smooth conduct of the festival.

Accompanied by Superintendent of Police J Mahesh, Corporation Commissioner Varadharajan, RDO C Suresh and other officials, Collector Annadurai visited all the four main roads the temple chariot would go around and directed the police, city corporation and temple administration to make proper arrangements to ensure adequate amenities and security for devotees and people who would throng to witness the car festival.

Over 500 police personnel would be deployed on security duty. Buttermilk and other cool drinks would be supplied to the people. Those who wish to organize annadhanam should obtain permission from the Food Safety Officer. Food safety officials should conduct checks whether the food and water packets supplied to people were hygienic, Annadurai said.
