Cop and son drown in rocky pool near Kumbakarai falls

Theni: In a tragic incident, a police head constable and his minor son drowned while taking bath in a rocky pool near the famous Kumbakarai falls in Periyakulam taluk today.

The 44-year-old Arulnathan, head constable attached to the Pookkadai police station in Chennai, along with his family members and kin had come to Kumbakarai falls for summer vacation. Since there was no water in the falls, Arulnathan reportedly took his son Samuel Raj (8) to the upstream area for bathing despite a ban order imposed by forest department since April 23 on taking bath in the upstream area for security reasons.

As both of them did not return for a long time, his family members and relatives searched them. Much to their shock, they found the bodies of Arulnathan and Samuel Raj in a rocky pool. The bodies were removed to government hospital morgue at Periyakulam for postmortem. Further investigations are on.
