Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam president Tamilaruvi Manian has proposed to undertake ‘padayatra’ along with his supporters from Chennai to Kanniyakumar from July 15 till September 1 pressing the demand for constitution of ‘ Lokayukta’ in Tamil Nadu.
If the government failed to convene the State assembly and announce the constitution of the Lokayukta before July 15, he along with his supporters would undertake the padayatra, Tamilaruvi Manian told media persons here today.
He also pointed out that the anti-corruption ombudsman organization (Lokayukta) is effectively functioning in the neighbouring States such as Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala and Odissa in South India.
Welcoming the people’s agitations against liquor sale, Tamilaruvi Manian said that the demand for prohibition is gaining ground in Tamil Nadu. But, this revolution should grow still bigger so as to bring the’ thought’ of total prohibition. Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam, PMK and MDMK had a major share in making people demand prohibition of liquor.
Following in the footsteps of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh also has now banned the sale of liquor in the State. But, total prohibition is not yet implemented in Tamil Nadu, he pointed out.
