Unidentified burglars who struck at the locked house of a PWD contractor here on Saturday decamped with 65 sovereigns of jewels kept in an iron safe locker.
Niyas Ahamed, a PWD contractor by profession and resident of Arulanandammal Nagar , 6th cross, Thanjavur, who left for Tiruvarur in the morning returned home late night. Then, he was shocked to find the lock on the front door broken open. When he went in, he found the bureau broken open and 65 sovereigns of jewels kept in the iron safe locker stolen.

The burglars had also taken the iron safe locker to another room before breaking open it. Therefore, police suspect that at least four persons should have involved in the burglary.
Niyas Ahamed’s wife Fathima along with her children was gone to her parent’s house in Chennai a few days ago.
On being informed, Superintendent of Police J Mahesh, DSP Tamilselvan and other police personnel rushed there, inspected the scene of crime and conducted enquiry. Based on a complaint, Thanjavur south police have registered a case and further investigations are on. Police have also formed a special team to nab the unidentified burglars.
