Hyundai India on Thursday took the covers off the 2017 Xcent at a starting price of Rs 5.38 lakh for petrol and Rs 6.28 lakh for diesel (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). In its latest avatar, the mid-size sedan offers several news including ABS as standard across variants.
The most prominent change in terms of looks comes in the form of an all-new horizontal front grille which bears resemblance to its elder sibling - Elantra. The bumper too has been updated with a dash of chrome being added on. Over to the rear and the changes come in the form of upgraded wraparound tail lamps which seek to give the car a contemporary look. The new Xcent will be offered in five colour options.
The bigger changes though are on the inside. Offered in five variants each for petrol and diesel, the new Xcent gets a seven-inch infotainment system with reverse camera integrated into it (top-end only). It also gets a generous doze of software gizmoz like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink with audio-video Navigation. Besides the console itself, the fabrics have been refreshed which highlight the facelift.
Interestingly, Hyundai has incorporated the 2017 Xcent with a new 1.2-litre diesel engine with 75 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque. Those looking for an automatic option will have to make do with the 4-speed auto which was already present in the 1.2-litre petrol. The claimed mileage figures of the 2017 Xcent is 20.14kmpl (petrol), 17.36kmpl for (petrol automatic) and 25.4 kmpl (diesel).
Hyundai has taken a bold step to update the Xcent which had begun looking very dated. With competition in the segment heating up with the launch of Tata Tigor last month, and the looming launch of Maruti Suzuki's updated Dzire, it would be interesting to see how Xcent would face up to present and upcoming challenges.
