Thanjavur: In a tragic incident, a 43-year-old worker engaged in sinking bore-well near Kumbakonam died and two others were injured after they slipped into a 10-foot deep pit as mud slid.

The workers namely Neelamegam (43) and Balraj (43), both hailing from Aanur village, and Raja alias Sivaprakasam (30), resident of Cholapuram, were busy sinking bore-well on Sunday evening in an agriculture field owned by Vaidyanathan in Aanur village. After sinking bore-well, they inserted the plastic pipe and kept pushing the mud with their foot. Then, they unexpectedly slipped into the 10-foot-deep pit as the mud slid.

Hearing their cries, people on the neighbourhood rushed there and rescued them. However, Neelamegam died on the spot while the other two sustained injuries. Balraj and Raja who sustained injuries were admitted to a private hospital in Kumbakonam.
On being informed, Kumbakonam taluk police retrieved Neelamegam’s body and arranged to send it to Government Hospital for postmortem. Police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
