Tiruchy: An AIADMK functionary died, two others including a six-year-old boy were injured, and ten houses were damaged after a massive explosion went off at Okkarai village in Uppiliapuram block early today.

The blast occurred in the early hours razed down the two-storied house owned by Sasikumar (42) who is also the local unit secretary of AIADMK, and caused huge damage to nine other neighbouring houses.
In the explosion, Sasikumar, his nephew Pranav (6) and his neighbour Selvarani (35) were injured. His family members, however, were not at home at the time of explosion as they were gone for a temple festival at Samayapuram on Sunday night.

Pranav was sleeping in another room in Sasikumar’s house while Selvarani was sleeping in her house.
The injured were rescued from the debris and were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchy where Sasikumar succumbed to his burns.

The exact cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained. Uppilapuram police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
Sleuths of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), forensic experts and senior police officials rushed there and held inquiry.
