Two persons arrested for robbing Rs 20 lakh from bank officials

Thanjavur: Two persons including an engineering graduate were arrested in Pattukottai early today in connection with the robbery of Rs 20 lakh from bank officials a couple of days ago.

 Police also recovered Rs 18 lakh from the duo and are on the lookout for two more persons including a juvenile in this connection.

Aravind S Kumar, manager of a nationalized bank at Naattusalai village near Pattukottai, along with cashier Subramanian, was returning in a car to his bank after getting Rs 20 lakh from a bank in Mallipattinam on March 30. Palanivel was driving the car.

The car was proceeding on the road at Kasangkadu village when a motorcycle borne two unidentified persons intercepted the car, sprinkled chilli powder on the faces of Aravind S Kumar and Subramanian, robbed the suitcase containing Rs 20 lakh and escaped.

Based on a complaint, Pattukottai taluk police registered a case and conducted investigation.

Investigation by police revealed the involvement of four persons including an engineering graduate and a juvenile in the robbery. Subsequently, police arrested Satheesh (24), an engineering graduate and resident of Silamba Velankadu, and Veeramani (23) of Kannukudi West village and recovered Rs 18 lakh from the duo. Police are also on the lookout for Saminathan (21), resident of Athirampattinam area and a juvenile of the same area who has studied Class X in this connection.
