Gun, explosive attacks on 2 media offices in Paraguay

Paraguayan journalists and officials are reporting two attacks on media outlets in the South American nation.

Police commissioner Victor Rios says the offices of La Jornada newspaper in Ciudad del Este were hit by 18 bullets but nobody was hurt.

La Jornada director Jose Espinola says the Thursday attack coincided with the publication of a story on possible police corruption.

Journalist Patricia Ayala says she was on air when some kind of explosive device was thrown at La Voz del Amambay radio in Pedro Juan Caballero.

She says she suffered minor injuries on her hands but her guest was wounded more seriously in the head and chest. Ayala said Friday night that witnesses saw an unknown attacker flee in a car.

Both cities are on Paraguay's eastern border with Brazil.
