People from 32 different countries were reportedly on the Boeing 737 flight which crashed in a field just 60 kilometres southeast of the capital.
The carrier’s CEO Tewolde GebreMariam visited the accident scene and expressed his sympathy and condolences to the families of passengers and crew who lost their lives calling it a “very sad and tragic day.”
The Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed’s official Twitter also expressed condolences to families of those lost in the crash. “The office of the PM, on behalf of government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express it’s deepest condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning,” the PM’s office said on Twitter.
