After a massive uproar against US President Donald Trump's remarks undermining American intelligence agencies on their findings of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, he made a U-turn from his statement.

Donald Trump, a day after his his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a summit in Helsinki, said that he misspoke when he said he saw no reason to believe Russia had interfered in the 2016 US election.

Trump received backlash even from his own party members after which he admitted that there was a need for clarification.

"I thought that I made myself very clear, but having just reviewed the transcript...I realized that there is a need for some clarification," Trump said Tuesday at the White House.

"The sentence should have been, 'I don't see any reason why I wouldn't, or why it wouldn't be Russia'" instead of "why it would," Trump said regarding the comments he had during the summit in Helsinki.

To control the damage done, Trump also said that he has "full faith and support" for the American intelligence community. He said he supports their assessment on Russian meddling, although he also claimed that others could also be responsible despite no evidence.

"It could be other people also. A lot of people out there. There was no collusion at all", he said.

Before meeting Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump was on a week-long Europe tour during which he attended the NATO summit in Brussels and visited the United Kingdom where British Prime Minister hosted him for an official visit
