Abu Dhabi: The National Advisor Bureau Limited of UAE – the United Arab Emirates has announced that they are going to launch a website for Iceberg Project. The website will highlight the various stages of the project. The plan aims to benefit the citizens of the UAE with respect to environment as well as economy. The website of the ambitious project has been launched in collaboration with the ‘Year of Zayed’ initiative. In the Iceberg project, it is proposed to tow the icebergs all the way from the icy continent of Antarctica to the deserts of UAE coasts by the National Advisor Bureau Limited of UAE. The project aims to create new water sources in the dry areas of Middle East. However, the project has received wide condemnation from various environmental agencies across the world.

After the announcement of the Iceberg project, a scientific committee is being set up by the National Advisor Bureau Limited of UAE. The committee will include various reputed scientists and experts on Antarctic ecosystem including nature of icebergs. The panel will also include marine biologists to study the effect of iceberg shifting on the marine life. This will be done in collaboration with research centers and universities around the world.

As per a report in Khaleej Times, A unique technology is being developed by the company to reduce the project costs as well as to ensure that ice does not melt while transporting the iceberg. However, the details of the advanced technology are not out in public domain yet. As per the KT reports, the entire project cost is estimated to be the US $ 50-60 million.
