Marshal Fahim Military University is located in Charrahe Qmbar and is the main educational institution for army cadets in Afghanistan.
Marshal Fahim National Defence University houses three important military educational and training facilities - National Military Academy of Afghanistan (NMAA), the Afghan National Army Officer Academy (ANAOA), and the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Academy.
The attack was launched at about 5 am, TOLO News reports.
According to a source inside the camp explosions and gunfire can be heard coming from the direction of the entrance.
Afghan security forces responding to the incident have reportedly blocked off all roads in the area. There are so far no official reports of fatalities or injuries.
Marshal Fahim Military Academy was the target of an attack last October when a suicide bombing killed 15 Afghan Army cadets as they were leaving the academy.
