4.3 magnitude earthquake strikes Andaman Islands

An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 hit the Andaman Islands in the wee hours of Tuesday. The tremor occurred at 1:03 a.m. in the Andaman Islands Region.

There were no immediate reports of loss of life or property. However, it was not so powerful as to merit a tsunami warning.

The Andaman and Nicobar archipelago falls under a high seismic zone. India has a dedicated tsunami warning centre that sends alerts to states and neighbouring littoral countries in case of an earthquake. Earlier on October 6, an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 had hit the Andaman Sea. On October 3, an earthquake of mild intensity - of magnitude 4.5, yellow stage - hit the Andaman Islands.
