Dr Nirmala, Dean, of Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital told “SimpliCity†“About 23 in patients with fever cases was reported in the last few days. Subsequently, the outpatients turned out to be consisting of 24 fever patients on the 15th and about 30 patients on the 14th.
"The climatic changes have resulted in an increase in flu cases across the country of which Coimbatore city is still in the safer zone and we are with full preparedness,†Dr Nirmala said and added, “Covid cases are showing a slight rise where 3 fresh cases were reported at the hospital and they are under treatment."
A Covid ward with 30 beds which was without patients is suddenly getting filled up now.
Referring to the symptoms she noted that “both Covid and flu do exhibit some similarities. But in case of mild fever or cold, one need not get hospitalized rather only patients with high fever or severe respiratory problems should consult a doctor and may require hospitalizationâ€.
The vulnerable categories are the elderly, patients with hypertension, diabetes, and tuberculosis and those who have undergone transplants.
“Hence following the Covid restrictions including hand hygiene, wearing masks and maintaining social distancing should be followed fully†Dr Nirmala noted.
