Coimbatore: The 20th National Conference of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons (IAGES) is being held from February 9-12 at the CODISSIA Trade Fair complex.
IAGES' objective is to equip young surgeons with the best skill and knowledge on Laparoscopy and Endoscopy with advanced technology. Hands-on training is facilitated by the trainers. In the present year, more than 2000 doctors have been trained and will receive their graduation certificates for the same during the National Conference.
Dr. L P Thangavelu, Chairman, Ashwin Hospital & PPG Group of Institutions and the President IAGES addressed the media on the sessions of the four-day conference, on the eve of the conference.

A practical session was also held for graduates and young surgeons on Laparoscopy and Endoscopy on February 9. The inaugural session of the conference will be held on Februaury10 wherein Dr. Gangadhar, former Director of NIMHANS Bengaluru and Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) will be the guests.
On the third day of the National Conference, February 11, an interactive session on the Mechanics of Health will be presided over by Sadhguru, Founder & Head, Isha Foundation. On February 12, the final day of the conference, the graduation ceremony of trained surgeons will take place wherein Dr. V Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) consented to be the guest.
Dr. L P Thangavelu stated that in general, metropolitan cities will serve as the venue for the annual national conference. Coimbatore serves as a city with high potential in all sectors including health advancements which have resulted in Coimbatore being chosen as the venue for the 20th conference.
The conference is said to witness more than 40 international faculty participants from countries including Japan, the United States, Bangladesh, Korea, England and Spain. Also, more than 200 top surgeons across India are participating in the conference which will include live surgical procedures with bilateral connections from seven operation theatres. As many as 30 live surgery cases are said to be presented.
The conference is inclusive of a display of various robotic equipment for surgery and the participation of manufacturers of these types of equipment. Five main advanced robotic technologies will be displayed during the conference.
