Watch out for Dengue spread by 'Aedes' mosquito: Public Health Department

The 'Aedes' mosquitoes, which spread dengue fever, multiply during the rainy season at a time when covid-19 cases are on the rise. According to the Public Health Department, 2,548 cases of dengue have been reported till May this year.


Coimbatore: The Public Health Department is taking various measures as per the instructions of the Government of Tamil Nadu to prevent the simultaneous spread of dengue and Covid.

Following this, the Director of Public Health has issued a circular to the District Deputy Directors of Health. "As there is a possibility of rains in the coming months, mosquito control measures should be taken and private and government hospitals should provide proper information to the district health department about dengue cases and monitor the production of 'larvae'.

Awareness should be created in all public places, the public should be informed that the waste should be removed so that the rain water does not stagnate and the waste should be removed and adequate quantity of chlorine should be mixed in the drinking water used by the public. Steps should be taken, including supply of drinking water to Nilavembu”.

Covid-19 tests were conducted on 24,000 people in Tamil Nadu, of which a total of 1461 people tested positive in Tamil Nadu, including 543 in Chennai, 240 in Chengalpattu, 75 in Tiruvallur, 181 in Coimbatore, 62 in Kanyakumari, 47 in Kancheepuram, 31 in Tirunelveli and 30 in Thoothukudi. Of those undergoing treatment, 697 people have recovered yesterday. A total of 8,222 people, including 404 in hospitals, are under treatment.
