Bus with Breast Cancer diagnostic equipment launched in Coimbatore; Ganga Hospitals joins hands with Rotary Metropolis Club

The Ganga Hospital in association with Rotary Metropolis Club, Coimbatore on Wednesday has launched a bus with modern equipment to diagnose early breast cancer and the foot problems arising out of diabetes.

Coimbatore: The Ganga Hospitals in Coimbatore, along with the Coimbatore Metropolis Club has launched a bus, furnished with equipment that helps in diagnosing the early breast cancer and the foot problems caused due to diabetes.

The bus is equipped with state-of-the-art equipments for testing under these two schemes namely, Project Shakti and Project Walk for Life for early detection of mastitis, (Hologic Mammography) and Project walk for life (to diagnose foot issues due to diabetes early and provide treatments to avoid loss of limb)

Dr Raja Shanmuga Krishnan, surgeon at Ganga Hospital, said the main aim was to diagnose early breast cancer through Project Shakti and provide timely medical treatment to it and save the lives of women. "Breast cancer is increasing normally among women. If diagnosed early, it can be cured immediately. But in India, a large number of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at the last moment and patients die without being cured. Project Shakti is intended to prevent this."

He added that 1500 women will be screened in the next 18 months by conducting medical camps at various places through this bus. This will create awareness about breast cancer among women and will help in identifying patients with early breast cancer. Apart from this, free treatment will be provided to the patients diagnosed under this scheme. The diagnosed breast cancer patients will undergo necessary tests such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and breast reconstructions. Through this programme, awareness about breast cancer will be created and they will be saved by providing them with free treatment.

Ganga Hospital Director Dr. Raja Sabapathy, while explaining the 'Project Walk for Life', said that the Project Walk for Life programme aims at preventing foot ulcers caused by diabetes by detecting foot ulcers at the beginning of the disease and treating them with the necessary treatment to prevent leg amputations.

"Diabetes mellitus is high in India. Moreover, due to diabetes, they are not able to feel the sensations of their feet. As a result, they do not feel the pain caused by their foot ulcers and go to the extent that the ulcers and the leg are amputated."

Under this scheme, 1800 diabetic patients will be tested free of cost and X-rays will be taken for the needed patient. If any of these patients are diagnosed with periodic ulcers, they will be given all the necessary treatments free of cost to avoid amputation.

Coimbatore District Collector Dr. Sameeran inaugurated and addressed the two schemes on the occasion.

Bharath Pandya, Pricol President Vanitha Mohan, Milky Mist director Anitha Satheesh Kumar and Rotary's Sundaravadivel were the special guests.
