Tirupur: As the inflow to the Amaravathi dam is increasing at a rapid pace, the Tirupur district administration has issued a flood alert warning to people living along the banks in Kallapuram, Madathukulam, Dharapuram, Chinna Dharapuram and Aravakurichi.

According to an evaluation done at 7 am today, the water level of the Amaravathi dam is measured at 87.96 ft against the total height of 90 ft. And, 2966 cusecs of water gets into the dam from Paambaru and Chinnaaru. As Munnar is pounded with heavy rains, it is expected that the inflow of water to Amaravathi will substantially increase.

As a precautionary measure, 2440 cusecs water is being released into Amaravathi river and 440 cusecs into Pudhu Vaaikal.
PWD officials said "Water level of Amaravathi dam is under continuous monitor. People in low-lying areas are advised to stay alert and call 1077 helpline number to report emergencies."
