Coimbatore: The City traffic police have introduced one-way traffic for buses from Ukkadam- Athupalam stretch from July 2, considering the traffic congestion caused by ongoing flyover construction works between the two junctions.
The Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover construction works were started recently and the City police introduced various traffic diversions to avoid traffic congestion in the area. Earlier, from 3rd June, heavy vehicles including lorries and Eicher trucks were diverted from using the Ukkadam-Athupalam stretch owing to the flyover construction works. Buses, two-wheelers, and cars were allowed to use the stretch both ways.
Buses to Kerala, Pollachi, Pazhani, and Udumelpet are operated from Ukkadam bus stand. However, considering the traffic congestions caused by buses, the City police has diverted buses from Athupalam to Ukkadam in a different route.
According to the new diversions, Buses can ply as usual between from Ukkadam to Athupalam but buses from Athupalam to Ukkadam will have to take the Athupalam-Sunambu Kalvai-Puttu Vikki road-Fish Market route to reach Ukkadam.
One of the Traffic Inspectors said, ”These traffic diversions will continue until the flyover works are completed. We request the public to cooperate with us.”
