To enhance the health standards of the people living in urban areas and make them more accessible to Primary Health Centres (PHC), additional services like Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, General Medicine, ENT, Dental Care, Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG), Orthopedics, Physiotherapy and Skin specialties have been added to the existing PHC at Singanallur, MM Home, Peelamedu, SLM Home and Selvapuram.
The speciality services will be available for public from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm from Monday to Friday. General Medicine - Monday, OBG - Tuesday, Pediatrics - Wednesday, Orthopedics & Physiotheraphy- Thursday, 1st Friday - Opthamalogy, 2nd Friday - Dental Care, 3rd Friday - ENT and 4th Friday - Skin speciality.
"Due to the unavailability of specialty services in the Primary Health Care Centres in urban areas, people throng the Government Hospital for treatments. If such treatments and consultations could be provided in PHC Centres, people belonging to low income groups, those who live in pavements and hutments could largely get benefited and dependency on Government Hospitals could also be lessened" says the press release from the City Corporation.
