Chennai: The Prohibition and Excise Department has announced that 500 liquor shops in Tamil Nadu will not function from Thursday, June 22.
During the last Assembly session, an announcement was made in the Assembly that 500 TASMAC shops in Tamil Nadu will be closed. The Government of Tamil Nadu has taken action in this regard, as of today.
Senthil Balaji, who was the Minister for Prohibition and Excise had made the announcement in the Assembly. Following this, a survey was conducted on the liquor shops that had to be closed down. TASMAC shops functioning in the vicinity of temples and schools were accorded priority for shut down and liquor shops were surveyed.
Accordingly, 500 TASMAC shops are to be shut down across Tamil Nadu from Thursday, according to a press release issued by the TASMAC management.
