Farm to Home: Last date for applying for mobile carts extended to May 20

The initiative of Farm to Home is to sell vegetables and fruits in 100 wards in Coimbatore Corporation through 6 mobile vans, with the price of commodities fixed on the basis of the prices of the nearby Farmers' Market.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation has decided to sell vegetables through mobile carts to all the 100 wards. The Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran has further said that the deadline to apply for mobile vegetable vending vehicles has been extended till May 20.

With sale of vegetables and fruits directly from farmers to their homes through vehicles becoming effective during the lockdown period, a scheme called 'Farm to Home' has been introduced to extend it to 5 Corporations namely Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Salem and Tirupur.

Under this scheme, 40 percent subsidy or financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakhs will be provided by the Government for the purchase of mobile vehicles in order to encourage the rural farming youth to be employed. Accordingly, it has been planned to sell vegetables and fruits to 100 wards in Coimbatore Corporation through six mobile vans and the price of the commodities will be fixed on the basis of the price of the nearby Farmers' Market.

Beneficiaries will be selected through the district level monitoring committee to get a subsidy for the purchase of vehicles through this scheme.

The eligibility criteria include:

1. Should have passed Class 12.

2. Should be 21-45 years old.

3. Farmers cultivating their own/leased land will have to submit proof of land ownership, chitta, Aadhar card and driving license.

4. Subsidy will be given to the beneficiaries only for one vehicle.

The deadline for receiving applications for the scheme has been extended till May 20. Eligible and interested farmers have been requested to fill the application form at the Offices of the District Deputy Director of Agriculture (Agri-Business), Trichy Road, Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore near the Office of the Farmers' Market and submit it by May 20.
