Coimbatore: Based on instructions by the Election Commission (EC) and Chief Electoral Officer, a one-day training program was arranged for officers from five districts including Salem, Nilgiris, Erode, Tirupur and Coimbatore on November 15 in Coimbatore.

About 67 officers from various departments in the five districts including Revenue Divisional Officers, Chief Educational Officers and District Educational Officers, Project Officers of Mahalir Thittam and Officers from Municipal Corporations participated in the one-day training on Electoral Literacy Clubs.
The training was held at the Corporation Higher Secondary School Auditorium in New Sidhapudur, with the District Collector K Rajamani presiding over the training program. V Manikandan, Joint Chief Electoral Officer inaugurated the training program.
All officials from the various departments were given necessary training materials, along with interactive training. Activities such as Designing Wall of Democracy, Who is an Informed Voter, Conduct of Elections, Recital of Poems on Electoral Awareness were carried out after dividing the participants into five teams. Further, card games and board games too were conducted involving all officials.
The objective of the Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELC) is to develop a culture of avid electoral engagement and making informed and ethical ballot decisions among all citizens of the country. ELC has been proposed to be set up in every High School and Higher Secondary Schools, colleges and communities. District Level Master Trainers will function as trainers for the Nodal Officers in every organization in the district.
