Coimbatore : The District Collector has appealed to the community of small and marginal farmers between the ages of 18-40 to apply for PMKMY, a pension scheme for farmers when they attain 60 years of age.
The Centre is working towards bringing all the farmers in the villages under the scheme.
According to Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Home Affairs Narendra Singh Tomar, a target has been set to enroll about one crore farmers in the next 100 days is set.
In the press release issued by the District Collector, it has been stated that PMKMY scheme will be implemented by the Centre’s Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers; welfare joining hands with Life Insurance Corporation to provide pension to small and marginal farmers as they attain 60 years of age.
An equal amount of pension premium would be borne by the Centre to the beneficiary. When beneficiaries 18-40 years of age bracket pay a premium of Rs. 50 - Rs. 200, they would be entitled to receive a pension amount of Rs. 3000.
Furthermore, in the case of farmer’s death his nominee will receive a monthly pension of Rs. 1500 regularly. If the farmers do not wish to continue with the scheme after 5 years of joining the scheme, they have the option of withdrawing the money with interest.
Pension insurance premiums can be paid monthly on a specific day or quarterly, annually.
This can be done either from the bank account through the auto-debit system or through the Prime Minister Kisan Saman scheme.
Eligible farmers can contact the e-seva service centers and register for the scheme by producing the Aadhaar, bank account details.
The following details will be uploaded directly to the existing site. Details such as name on Aadhar, date of birth, spouse name and phone number of the spouse are to be submitted.
At the e- seva Center, the officer shall sign the register and issue the receipt along with the first instalment details.
The farmer will receive Prime Minister Kisan Manthan Yojana with Pension Scheme Identity Card and Pension Account Number will also be given. The District Collector has invited all the farmers to register themselves and benefitted by the scheme.
