Coimbatore: As part of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University's four-year B.Sc. Agriculture program, the sowing of the maize hybrid (TNAU Maize Hybrid CoHM6) was done by students in their allotted four cents of land in the Eastern block farm at the TNAU campus on July 12.
The principles of crop production are taught in the first two years of the B.Sc. Agriculture program, while the applied aspects are covered in the remaining two years of study. Practical crop production is one among the many courses offered in the Department of Agronomy during the third year of study. In the sixth semester, students learn about the practical aspects of maize cultivation.

In the current even semester (VI semester), the TNAU students were exposed to maize cultivation. The sowing of Maize hybrid (TNAU Maize Hybrid CoHM6) was done by students in their allotted four cents of land in the Eastern block farm of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on July 12. Professor Dr. R Kalpana welcomed the dignitaries.
The sowing process was inaugurated by Dr. N Venkatesa Palanichamy, Dean (Agriculture), Dr. M K Kalarani, Director (Crop Management), Dr. E Somasundaram, Director, (Agri Business Development) and Dr. N Maragatham, Dean (Students Welfare). The Heads of the Departments and scientists also took part in the event. The sowing of maize was done by about 135 third year B.Sc. (Agriculture) students.
Dr. S Panneerselvam, Professor and Head, Department of Agronomy, course teachers Dr. R Kalpana, Dr. S K Natarajan, Dr. M Senthivelu and Dr. S P Sangeetha were involved in organizing the inaugural function of the sowing of maize by the students.
