Brainstorming interactive session on 'TNAU Consortium of Seed Value' held at TNAU campus in Coimbatore

Seed production scientists from various constituent colleges, research stations, KVKs of TNAU and office bearers of the Tamil Nadu Seed Association participated in the session.


Coimbatore: The Seed Centre of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University organized a brainstorming interactive session on 'TNAU Consortium of Seed Value System' on June 28.



Seed production scientists from various constituent colleges, research stations, KVKs of TNAU and office bearers of the Tamil Nadu Seed Association participated in the session.

Dr. M Bhaskaran, Professor and Head, the Department of Seed Science and Technology welcomed the gathering and shared the mandate and vision of TNAU Seed Consortium. The introductory remarks of the program was delivered by Dr. R Umarani, Director, Seed Centre who highlighted the initiation of TNAU Consortium of Seed Value System as the need of the hour since it will act as a platform for the exchange of information and knowledge among the members and pave the way to improve the seed ecosystem of Tamil Nadu. She also said that the initiative helps to create a milestone in the supply of quality seeds to the farmers.

Dr. V Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU delivered the Presidential address and emphasized that efforts should be taken to

supply quality seeds of improved varieties of TNAU to the farmers at the right time and the right place to improve the agricultural productivity of the State. She also insisted that research should be taken up to develop path-breaking technologies which will be helpful to improve the revenue of the farmers.

The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the Seed Centre for the initiative to bring the private seed producers, scientists of TNAU and other stakeholders on a single platform. She released the Golden Jubilee Brochure and launched the digitization technology of seed

production data. Dr. R Ravikesavan, Director (CPBG) emphasized that the private seed producers should popularize the newly-released TNAU varieties among the farmers.

Dr. D Suresh Kumar, Director (CARDS) highlighted in his speech that an effective strategy may be followed to assess the demand of quality seeds in various crops to improve the market potential. Dr. P P Murugan, the Director of Extension Education deliberated the efforts taken by KVKs to promote the promising varieties of TNAU among the farmers.

The President of Tamil Nadu Seed Association (TNSA), P Baskaran assured that TNSA will join hands with TNAU in production and marketing of TNAU varieties and he also expressed that the members of TNSA were interested to enroll as members of the proposed consortium. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. K Sundaralingam, Professor (SST).
