Water released for irrigation from Aliyar and Amaravathi dams

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered that water from the Amaravathi, Aliyar dam be opened for irrigation from today.


Tirupur: The old strategic irrigation water from the Amaravathi Dam will be released from today.

According to a press release issued by Additional Secretary General of the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department Sandeep Saxena: -

Water from Amaravathi Dam to irrigate has been released from the first 8 old Raja canals (Ramakulam, Kallapuram, Kumaralingam, Sarkar Kannadiputhur, Cholamadevi, Kaniyur, Kadathur and Karatholuvu) under old irrigation from 16th May to 28th September for 135 (of which there will be 80 days of water release and 55 days when water will not be opened).

The government has ordered the opening of not more than 2,074-million cubic feet of water from the Amaravathi Dam for first-line irrigation on the basis of a 55-day water blockade. Thus, 7,520 acres of land in Tirupur district will be irrigated. “

54,637-acres of land in Tirupur and Karur districts are being irrigated through the Amaravathi Dam. In this case, the water from the dam will usually be released to the old strategic irrigated lands only in June. Due to insufficient monsoon rains last year.

Due to the availability and availability of water for the dam, the old strategic irrigation canals in Udumalai and Madathukulam talukas will be opened on May 16 to supply water for the cultivation of Kuruvai and Samba.
