The ITC Mission Sunehra Kaland COODU organized Water Mela at Karamadai to spread the theme of optimizing water usage in Bhavani River Basin Catchment.


Coimbatore: The ITC Mission Sunehra Kaland COODU organized Water Mela at Karamadai to spread the theme of optimizing water usage in Bhavani River Basin Catchment.

ITC’s Social Development unit namely Mission Sunehra Kal is implementing Water Stewardship Program along with NGO COODU in Karamadai block of Coimbatore. ITC is implementing this program in the catchment areas of River Bhavani to make the catchment Water positive.



On March 17, 2022, a Water Mela was organized jointly by ITC and COODU to create awareness amongst local beneficiaries about the importance of water as well as communicating the several water harvesting as well as water usage optimizing measures taken by ITC Mission Sunehra Kal in the catchment to achieve the objective of making Basin Water Positive.

To date through the supply-side interventions so far, 600 harvesting structures were renovated which is equivalent to 10.6 Lakhs, and through demand-side interventions called water-saving technologies, that so far reached 60 Lakhs with the support of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

Dr.S Paneerselvam Director-Water Technology center, TNAU was the chief guest of the event. He said, “Water is the most important part of our life and ITC is contributing towards its conservation along with the development of farmer’s agriculture practices is really commendable". Followed by this, the progress brochures and 5 years achievement display board were disclosed by the guests. Other dignitaries present were Chitra Devi, JDA, Dr. Kumaravadivel, KVK head, ADA, Karamadai, Panchayat Presidents and Vice President from Maruthur, Tholampalayam, Velliyankadu, Kemmarampalayam, ITC MSK, and COODU officials.

Chitra Devi delivered on government schemes and available technologies with the State government. Around 600 farmers from the catchment area participated in the event.
