The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) conducted a beekeeping training program at the university campus in which 25 farmers participated.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) conducted a beekeeping training program at the university campus in which 25 farmers participated.

The State Level Training on Scientific Beekeeping was conducted by National Bee Board, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India between 16th and 22nd of December 2021. About 25 farmers from various parts of Tamil Nadu participated in the training program.
In the press release issued by the university, it was stated that “A State Level Training on Scientific Beekeeping sponsored by National Bee Board, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi was inaugurated on 16.12.2021 at the Department of Agricultural Entomology, TNAU, Coimbatore. About 25 farmers/beekeepers from different parts of Tamil Nadu who were selected with the help of Krishi Vigyan Kendras participated in the training. The seven days training was held from 16.12.2021 to 22.12.2021.â€
Professor of Entomology and the Principal Investigator of the project, Dr. M. R. Srinivasan, welcomed the gathering. The Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Entomology, Dr. N. Sathiah explained the salient features of the training program. The Director, Centre for Plant Protection Studies, Dr. K. Prabakar presided over the function and requested the farmers to involve themselves well in the hands-on training program and to utilize the opportunity.
Dr. Naveen Kumar Patle, Executive Director, National Bee Board and Additional Commissioner of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GOI, New Delhi inaugurated the training virtually.
He explained the Mini Missions I to III under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi. He sensitized the beekeepers to register with the Madhukranti web portal and invited Krishi Vigyan Kendras of TNAU to promote bee flora plantation with the support of the National Bee Board.
Dr. Ravi Kumar Theodore, Professor, and Head (Agricultural extension), Training Division, Directorate of Extension Education, suggested forming Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) specifically for beekeeping for effective marketing of bee products. Vivek, a progressive beekeeper from Coimbatore District attended the program as a resource person and interacted with the participant farmers. Dr. A. Suganthi, Assistant Professor of Entomology proposed the formal vote of thanks, the press release stated.
