As part of the World Coconut Day celebrations, a special seminar was held at Aliyar Coconut Research Station near Pollachi.
Coimbatore: World Coconut Day was celebrated at the Coconut Research Station of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University at Aliyar, next to Anaimalai.
Former Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Somasundaram presided over the function which was chaired by TNAU Vice-Chancellor, Kumar. The event featured a seminar on high-yield technology for coconut produce. 270 coconut farmers from all over Tamil Nadu participated in the seminar online and in person.
Praneetha, Professor and Chairperson, Aliyar Coconut Research Station welcomed the audience at the inaugural function.

Speaking on the occasion, TNAU Vice Chancellor, Kumar stressed the need for all farmers to work together to address the crisis in coconut produce. "Farmers can compensate for coconut price fluctuations by sheep and goat rearing, integrated farming and intercropping. TNAU is actively implementing research programs to control the root rot disease which causes high incidence in coconut using microbial compounds in an integrated manner," he reassured.
