Asst. Director of Agriculture urges farmers to set up drip irrigation
Coimbatore: Farmers have been invited to set up drip irrigation in the Thondamuthur area of Coimbatore by the Thondamuthur Regional Assistant Director of Agriculture, Revathi.
According to the press release issued by Revathi, the installation of drip irrigation is seen as essential in the current situation. "Saving 70 percent of irrigation water and mixing chemical fertilizers with water will serve to reduce the cost of cultivation by 50 percent. Drip irrigation can be set up at 100 percent of the subsidy fixed by the Government for small farmers and at 75 percent subsidy for other farmers. Similarly, a subsidy of up to Rs. 3,000 is provided for digging trenches for crops other than sugarcane, to install new micro-irrigation pipes," stated the press release.
To avail the benefit of joining this scheme, those interested can contact the Thondamuthur Regional Agricultural Extension Center with Citta, Land Map, Photos, Water and Soil Testing Certificate, Ration Card, Aadhar Card and the Joint Map Small Mortgage Certificate taken during the last six months. Rs. 104 lakhs has been allocated for the implementation of the project in an area of 150 hectares in the Thondamuthur area, this year.
