Farmers frustrated as traders do not arrive at the Kinathukadavu market

Coimbatore: Farmers in and around Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district are bring their harvested tomatoes, green chillies, plantains and eggplants to the vegetable market near the new bus stand and sell them at auction. Local and other district traders come and buy the produce brought by the farmers.

A complete lockdown has been implemented in Tamil Nadu for two weeks as a coronavirus prevention measure. Due to this, the grocery and vegetable shops are open only till 12 noon and the business in the shops is less.

As a result, all the produce in the market have been stagnant for the last two days as traders did not turn up. As the market closes at 12 noon, farmers are taking back their produce from the market. Farmers are frustrated that they are not able to store their produce and it is simply rotting with no buyers.
