Coimbatore District Collector urges farmers to apply subsidy for setting up drip irrigation


Coimbatore: The District administration has urged farmers to apply for a subsidy to set up drip irrigation through the Department of Horticulture.

According to a press release issued by the Coimbatore District Collector, S Nagarajan, "The Department of Horticulture provides 100 percent subsidy to small farmers and 75 percent subsidy to other farmers under the Micro Irrigation Scheme. Small-time farmers can avail up to a maximum of 2 hectares and other farmers up to 5 acres.

A subsidy of Rs. 3,000 per acre is being provided for digging pits for micro-irrigation. Under the water management scheme, farmers who apply before setting up micro-irrigation are given a subsidy of Rs. 10,000 per hectare for pumping water, Rs.15,000 for setting up an oil engine electric motor and Rs. 40,000 for setting up a ground level reservoir.

Farmers wishing to avail the subsidy must submit documents including Chitta, Map for Small time Farmers Soil and Water Testing Report, Family Card Copy, Copy of Adhaar Card and Certificate of Consent issued from the Office of the Assistant Director of Regional Horticulture.
