Local farmers request to turn these tomatoes into value products like ketchup.
Tirupur: Tomato is majorly cultivated in the areas of Malaiyandi Kavundanur, Aandiya Kavundanur, Uralpatti, Kannamananaickenur and Marulpatti and 50 other villages surrounding Tirupur.

Excess cultivation of tomato which leads to the drop in its price has become a routine in recent years. This year a 16 kg weight crate of tomatoes were sold for just 50 rupees.
Because of the future labour expenditure some farmers have decided not to take the fruits from the plant leaving them in the plants. Some farmers who decide to take it to the commision market are facing loss as the tomatoes ripe to the maximum in 2 days.

These traders are then seen dumping the leftover tomatoes on the road which brings tears in the eyes of the farmers.

Hence the local farmers have made a request to build a storage unit for these tomatoes and have asked it to be turned into Tomato sauce or ketchup and other value added products.
