Coimbatore: Tomato prices rise sharply in Coimbatore due to impact of cold weather.

In the Thondamuthur area, the price of tomatoes has gone up by Rs 100 in a single day. In the Thondamuthur area, 25,555 acres are being cultivated with tomatoes. The main crops grown here are tomatoes, small onions, turmeric, bananas and coconuts. Farmers here sell their produce at the Boluvampatti Daily Vegetable Market and the Thondamuthur Daily Vegetable Market.

The day before yesterday, a tipper weighing 14 kg sold for 420 rupees at the Thondamuthur daily vegetable market and yesterday, the price of 14 kg tipper tomatoes went up by Rs 100 to Rs 520. Farmers said, "Due to heavy rains last January, damage was caused in many places. Currently there is a lot of cold mist. Thus, the supply of tomatoes is greatly reduced. In another week, the price of tomatoes will go up further."
